Chernobyl will again generate electricity
On December 15, 2000, the last unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was stopped. Since then, the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone has only consumed energy, supplying numerous enterprises located on its territory.
But on February 13, 2014, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the State Agency of Ukraine for the Management of the Exclusion Zone and Vipiemme Solar SRL, ZN.ua reports
The memorandum provides for the installation of solar panels with a capacity of up to 0.5 MW in the exclusion zone, cooperation and exchange of experience on the construction of power plants and the production of solar energy.
Oleg Proskuryakov, the head of the Ministry of Ecology, noted that the signing of the memorandum is the beginning of fruitful cooperation, which will help to take the first steps in creating enterprises in Ukraine that can both satisfy public energy consumption needs and save and save exhaustible natural resources for future generations.
