We will visit the key sites of the Zone that were depicted in the HBO series. Please, find the approximate route below:

• the Dytiatky checkpoint – the entrance to the Exclusion Zone, at 30km distance from the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. After entering the Exclusion Zone we are going directly to the abandoned town of Prypiat and half of our day we will spend there.
• Entrance to the ghost-town of Prypiat, where the well-known western radioactive trace located. It will only take us a few seconds to pass it by bus, but nevertheless, it will be incredibly interesting for those, who grabbed a Geiger-counter with them, as this is one of the few places where you will be able to see the changes on the counters’ scale.
• The decontaminated Red Forest – this forest received one of the first radioactive fallouts, which gave the famous red color to the trees. Now, more than 30 years have passed by and we can finally see this place with our own eyes while being safe.
• The “Bridge of death” – the place where (according to the series) people stood, watching the mysterious light, coming from the ChNPP. We will tell you what actually was happening there.
• The ghost town of Prypiat, that includes:

• Fire unit of Prypiat, from which the firefighters arrived at the ChNPP to extinguish the fire.
• The dormitory, where the real Vasil and Ludmila Ignatenko lived.
• Hospital 126, where the first responders of the accident were brought, including the first brigade of the firemen. Please note, that we do not enter the building – we always remember about safety and security.
• Hotel Polissia – the most important guests of the town have stayed here. Probably, you’ve seen the scene with the roof; today you can compare the HBO mini-series with the actual story.
• The city council. It is hard to overestimate the influence and importance of this building, as this is precisely where the decisions were made on how to conquer the disaster.
• The so-called “White house” –the residence of the most influential citizens, heads of the Chernobyl NPP, who became the decision-makers during the hard times.
• The story of Anatolii Diatlov, which we all followed during the HBO series, will take shape and become more real, as we visit his apartment.
• The amusement park with the iconic Ferris wheel.
• Optional locations: Central stadium, cinema Prometheus and the school of arts.

We will find out what was happening there on the 26th of April 1986 and the way the evacuation was conducted. We will see the video recordings of Prypiat, taken before the accident, discuss how this town was built and also, what distinguished the citizens of Prypiat from citizens of other cities and towns. You will see unbelievably touching old photographs that depict Prypiat as it used to be and pictures from the HBO series as well. This way you will be able to compare all three: the historical photos, the recreated moments from the series, and the place itself in present time.

• The Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant:
• We will have the opportunity to visit the underground bunker inside the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, where the first crisis meeting of the administrative personnel took place immediately after the explosion – we will discuss what was happening during the very first hours after the accident.
• We will visit the memorial to the heroes, who were the first victims of the explosion.
• The observation point at the ChNPP. You will learn more about the miners, the helicopter accident you’ve probably seen in the HBO series, and, last but not least – about the erection of the Sarcophagus.

• The town of Chornobyl, that includes:
• Exposition of the robots, which were used in the decontamination process on top of the roof of Unit 3. 
• Monument “To those who saved the world” – the monument erected by the local firefighters in memory of the first responders to the nuclear accident. 
• We will see the cultural house of Chornobyl town, where in 1987 the main trial took place and where Anatolii Diatlov, Viktor Briukhanov and Nykolai Fomin were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. We will discuss the real reasons of the accident.
• The central square, that will give us a sight on the various monuments, dedicated to our story, including the surrealistic alley with an endless list of the settlements that were evacuated after the accident and a symbolic figure of an angel of a “Wormwood star” memorial.

Please keep in mind that there can be some changes in the route due to weather conditions and/or restrictions from the Governmental institutions.

We spend maximally permitted time of stay in the Zone: leaving Kyiv at 8.00 a.m., arriving back at 8.30-9.00 p.m.

The tour could be shortened upon your request; however, please be aware that the cost of the tour doesn’t depend on the duration of the trip.

We recommend departing at 8.00 a.m., as this will give us the most time to spend in the Zone. Nevertheless, as it is a private tour, we will be happy to depart whenever is more suitable for your group. Just let us know your preferences!

We pick you up at your hotel or any other place of your choice within the Kyiv city limits.

Please don’t forget your PASSPORT.

Your guide will be waiting for you near the bus with a radiation sign under the windshield.

We kindly ask you to be on time. In case of no-show on the day of the tour, the trip deposit would not be refundable.

The Chornobyl Exclusion Zone is about 120 km away. It takes up to 2 hours of a drive (depending on traffic) on board a comfortable bus with air conditioning or a comfortable private car.

On your way to the Zone you will review the detailed itinerary of the trip and receive safety instructions. The guide will be happy to answer all your questions regarding the trip, radiation and nuclear accident. You will also be offered to watch documentaries about Chornobyl accident.

Alternatively, if you prefer to go by your car instead, please let us know- we will do our best to arrange it.

10 a.m. approximately – arrival at the Chornobyl Zone

We arrive at the Dytiatky checkpoint which is the official entrance to the Exclusion Zone. Take your time at the local information centers for tea/coffee/snacks while the guide will be taking care of the paperwork needed for the visit. That is your chance to buy unique souvenirs in the memory of the trip and everything you may need during the trip: from a Geiger counter to paper tissues.

After passport control conducted by the local police, we begin the tour inside the Exclusion Zone. We drive between locations on board of the bus and walk on-site by foot – to explore the most famous places.

2 p.m. approximately – lunch

We will visit the local canteen #19, that’s serving the ChNPP employees and visitors. There you will have a traditional Ukrainian meal made of ecologically clean products. If you are a vegetarian, please inform CHORNOBYL TOUR manager about your eating habits when booking the trip.

6:00-7:00 p.m. approximately – departure from the Chornobyl Zone

On our way from the Zone we go through radiation control twice to make sure that we are completely clean and are not contaminated by radiation (don’t have any radioactive particles on our clothes or shoes).

In case you need to depart earlier, please let us know in advance, and our managers will be glad to arrange it for you.

8:00-9:00 p.m. approximately – arrival back in Kyiv

We take you back to your hotel, restaurant for dinner or any other place of your choice within the Kyiv city limits.

Must have in the Zone:

PASSPORT (not ID) – it should be the one that you specified in the application for the trip! It is impossible to enter the Zone without a passport.

* CHORNOBYL TOUR shall not be liable for your failure to enter the Exclusion zone because of the wrong passport number / name / date of birth / nationality or wrong passport on the day of the trip.

CLOSED SHOES – boots or sneakers, which fully cover your feet without fancy openings, please.

CLOSED CLOTHES – trousers (no shorts, no knee-breeches, no skirts) and a jacket or a shirt with long sleeves. Your clothes should fully cover your legs and arms without fancy openings, please.

! It is PROHIBITED to wear any open type clothing and footwear in the Zone.

To make sure your trip is comfortable and enjoyable, we advise you to:

• have comfortable shoes and clothes as we are going to walk a lot on-site
• check the weather forecast and be prepared for rain or shine – dress warmly for freezing temperatures, have a hat for hot weather, waterproof shoes and spare socks for rain, snow or dew on the grass
• have a repellent for mosquito season
• have some wet wipes or paper tissues
• have some sandwiches and bottled water with you to have a bite on the way

Legal issues

No weapons (even with a legal permit) are allowed within the territory of the Exclusion zone.

Visitors under the influence of alcohol or drugs are not allowed to visit the site.

Age limit

According to Ukrainian law every visitor of the Exclusion zone should be over the age of 18. No underage visitors will be admitted under any circumstances. Notarized parental consent or even their personal presence in the trip do not change this rule.
